The Californian Shaman program is a week long summer camp at UC San Diego which exposes high school students to ecology and botany, chemistry, and neurobiology. Students’ experiences include: a hike and guided tour of the UC San Diego Scripps Nature Reserve with explanation and extraction of plants for further chemical analysis, hands-on laboratory experimentation at UC San Diego biochemistry laboratories, neurobiology experimentation and neurochemistry discovery, and a tour of Dr. Siegel’s Organic Chemistry lab at the UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
